Response to "Lord of the Flies"

The beginning of the book "Lord of the Flies" by William Golding, has confused a little bit. I understand the basic ideas of the setting, POV, characters, and plot. I am a little confused about the time period of the novel. I am debating whether it is in the future or the past. I also understand what the conch and the beast are supposed to represent in the novel.

This book is a little strange to me, because it is very different than any other book that I have read. There is a lot of symbolism in "Lord of the Flies." I predict that kids will be able to create a system with many different jobs for their survival. I also think that the system may fall apart. I hope that  I will be able to enjoy reading this book and that it will keep my attention.

  1. I think this book is in the past because it refers to the Queen having a big map of the world, but I may be wrong. I also think the "system" will fall a part if there is one because they don't seem very organized.

  2. This book started out confusing for me too and still is a little confusing. This book has also been a different read for me too. I hope, like you, that I might eventually enjoy this book too.
